Police: Man Breaks into Apartment, Fondles Woman as She Slept

Police arrest Woodbridge man.

An Arlington woman was awakened in the middle of the night Sunday to a man fondling her in her bedroom. Police say the man broke into the woman's apartment by breaking a window.

The Arlington County Police Department has taken into custody and charged Joshua Barrett, 23, of Woodbridge with burglary with intent to commit rape and sexual assault and battery. Barrett was denied bond and is currently being held in the Arlington County Detention Facility.

On Sunday at approximately 3:10 a.m., Barrett entered the victim’s apartment in the 4500 block of Arlington Boulevard by breaking a window on the rear door to gain entry in the early morning hours. Barrett entered the victim’s bedroom and began to fondle her as she slept. The 36 year-old female awoke as Barrett was lying next to her and screamed. The victim ran to the lobby of her apartment complex and called police.

As officers were conducting their initial search of the apartment, a male subject matching Barrett’s description was seen standing outside the rear of the residence. A foot pursuit ensued and Barrett was taken into custody. He was transported to booking and the magistrate issued the respective warrants.
