A sunglasses robbery almost turned violent in Pentagon City, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
Between 10:10 and 10:25 a.m. Friday, a man put five pairs of sunglasses into a bag and left the store he was in without paying. Police have not identified the store, which is in the 1400 block of South Hayes Street.
A loss prevention officer attempted to stop the man, who told the officer he was carrying a gun, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.
"The loss prevention folks don't carry any type of firearm…. so they let him go," he said.
The man then ran away, according to police.
He is described as between 35 and 45 years old, 6-foot-3 and weighing 240 pounds. He was wearing a yellow button-down shirt and dark jeans at the time of the incident.
