Arlington police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who they say attempted to sexually assault a juvenile girl Tuesday morning.
The man entered the victim's apartment in the Columbia Heights West neighborhood at about 6 a.m. Tuesday and attempted to sexually assault the girl, according to police.
The girl was home alone, according to police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck. Officers have not yet found her attacker.
Police are not disclosing how the man entered the apartment. They are not saying how old the victim is, other than calling her a juvenile. Sternbeck would not release the block number of the apartment complex or say whether the victim was injured or hospitalized.
"It's still in the beginning stages of the investigation," he told Patch. "We're just not releasing much at this time. What we are doing is soliciting the help from the public in identifying who this suspect is…"
Police did release a description of their suspect. He is described as a white man between 20 and 25 years old, about 5-foot-7 with freckles and a short brown mohawk.
At the time of the attack, the man was wearing a white shirt with a grey design, blue jeans and black shoes.
Police are asking anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of this man to contact Detective Joe McGrath at 703-228-4244 or firstname.lastname@example.org. To report information anonymously, contact the Arlington County Crime Solvers at 866-411-8477.
