Police Nab 3 in Arlington Bank Robbery

Northbound George Mason is closed at Columbia Pike due to investigation.

Update (4:46 p.m.): All lanes of George Mason Drive have been reopened, according to an Arlington Alert.

Original article (2:14 p.m.): Arlington police took three people into custody Tuesday afternoon following a bank robbery at George Mason Drive and Columbia Pike.

Two suspects entered the Wells Fargo at 951 S. George Mason Drive at about 1:20 p.m., while a third sat in the getaway car, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

A firearm was brandished during the robbery, he said. Additional details about the robbery and the individuals who were apprehended was not immediately available.

"The investigation is really just underway," Sternebeck said.

As of 2 p.m., the three suspects were at police headquarters for questioning and detectives were at the bank interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, he said.

The FBI is also on the scene, he said, which is customary for bank robberies.

Arlington County issued an alert at 1:59 p.m. that northbound George Mason Drive was closed at Columbia Pike due to the investigation.
