Rash of Tire Slashings Reported in Arlington Views Neighborhood

Investigators believe the latest incidents are unrelated to the Prius tire-slashing rampage that hit Arlington in July.

Police are investigating a rash of tire slashings in the Arlington Views neighborhood.

Between 2:45 and 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, an unknown person or group of people slashed the tires of 10 vehicles within roughly a three-block radius.

The cars did not show any kind of pattern in terms of make or model, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch.

"We're just wanting to put this information out there," he said. "Maybe somebody saw a suspicious vehicle, or somebody who seemed to be out of place."

Investigators recovered a screwdriver, which may have been the tool used to puncture the tires, he said.

One night in late July, tires on 15 vehicles — one was a Smart car; the rest, Toyota Prius — across the northern and southern ends of Arlington County.

This latest incident is likely unrelated because of the limited area effected and the seemingly random types of vehicles that were targeted, Sternbeck said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the Arlington Views slashings to call the Arlington County Police Department's non-emergency number at 703-558-2222.
