Tire Slashings Poke Holes in Pentagon City New Year's Fun

Arlington police have no suspect in the latest rash of destruction of property.

Some New Year's Eve revelers in Arlington started 2014 out a little deflated.

Between 5 and 9 a.m. Wednesday, anywhere from one to four tires were reported slashed on six different vehicles in the 400 block of South Army Navy Drive in Pentagon City.

The cars were parked outside, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told Patch. He estimated the damage to be "at least several thousand dollars."

Investigators aren't sure if the destruction of property is related to any of the other tire-slashing sprees Arlington saw in 2013.

In a bizarre July incident, tires on 15 vehicles — one was a Smart car; the rest, Toyota Prius — were slashed across the northern and southern ends of Arlington County.

The next month, tires on 10 vehicles were struck in the Arlington Views neighborhood.

More recently, within a one-month span, multiple cars in the Hall's Hill community were dealt the same fate.

Police have no suspect in the New Year's tire slashings.
