Arlington County Seeks Ideas for Reevesland Farmhouse

Arlington County is seeking preliminary, informal ideas for the future of historic Reevesland farmhouse.

The site, which was home to the county's last working dairy farm and is located in the Boulevard Manor community, has for years hung between a group of enthusiastic, concerned residents who want to save the property and the county government, which doesn't seem to know what to do with it.

Arlington County issued a request for proposals for the property in the fall but no private developer responded.

The current request for interest, or RFI, seeks ideas that would give the Reevesland farmhouse a new purpose.

Successful ideas will include "substantial funding for rehabilitating the site and all the funding for the operation of the farmhouse and any programming at the site," according to a news release.

The deadline for submissions is March 11. Proposals will be evaluated and recommendations will be submitted to County Manager Barbara Donnellan on which should be further explored.

Future uses for the farmhouse could include, the release states, a public or private facility — an educational center, museum, community center, art gallery or a single family home are listed as examples.

A group of Bluemont, Boulevard Manor and Dominion Hills residents would like to see the property converted to an agricultural learning center.

Any proposed idea must maintain the historic qualities of the site and mesh with the nearby neighborhoods.

Arlington County bought the property in 2001.
