Arlington Delegate Bob Brink Resigning to Take Job with McAuliffe Administration

New position: Deputy Commissioner for Aging Services, Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, the governor's office announced.

A longtime Arlington politician will no longer be representing his constituents in Richmond, as he has done the past 17 years.

Del. Robert "Bob" Brink, who represents the 48th District, which includes north Arlington, Crystal City and a part of McLean, will take a healthcare-related job with Gov. Terry McAuliffe's administration.

Brink's new position will be working as the Deputy Commissioner for Aging Services, Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, the governor's office announced.

Brink has served for 17 years in the Virginia House of Delegates, where has been a member of the Appropriations Committee and its Health Subcommittee, and has been a member of the Joint Commission on Health Care since 1998.

He is the ranking Democrat on the House Privileges and Elections Committee and serves on the Transportation and Education Committees. Prior to his election to the House of Delegates, Bob served for 15 years as counsel to two Congressional committees and four years as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Next up: Politicos will be on the lookout for a special election for the seat. That date is up to House Speaker William Howell (R-Fredericksburg).

As redrawn in 2011, Virginia’s 48th Delegate District includes the area in Northern Virginia covering north Arlington, as well as much of McLean from the Arlington border to the Beltway. It also runs along the Potomac from Chain Bridge to National Airport and Crystal City.
