Beau Biden to Headline Democratic Rally in Arlington

Vice president's son will keynote Veterans for Obama event Thursday.

Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden and Delaware's attorney general, will be the keynote speaker at a Veterans for Obama rally this week in Arlington.

Beau Biden, a major in the Delaware Army National Guard who spent a year deployed in Iraq, helped launch the Veterans for Obama group earlier this year in Norfolk.

With Virginia being a top battleground state in this year's presidential election, both parties are courting the state's veterans. They number about 822,300, which accounts for more than 10 percent of the state's population, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Biden will be joined by other high-ranking veterans at the Arlington rally, which starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association headquarters, .

Other speakers include Army Brig. Gen. Larry Gillespie, Navy Rear Adm. Jamie Barnett and Seth Lovell, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran who served in the Virginia Army National Guard.
