Cynthia Richmond Named Arlington Economic Development Acting Director

Richmond takes over after the sudden death Saturday of Arlington Economic Development Director Terry Holzheimer.

Arlington County Manager Barbara Donnellan has named Cynthia Richmond acting director of Arlington Economic Development. Richmond, 58, takes over after the sudden death Saturday of Arlington Economic Development Director Terry Holzheimer. Richmond has served as deputy director of AED since 2005.

"Cindy worked with Terry Holzheimer for years – first in Loudoun County, when Terry was their director of economic development, and then here," Donnellan said in a news release. "She brings to the job a wealth of experience in economic development, and a deep understanding of Arlington's civic and business culture. I look forward to working with her to continue the excellent work that AED did under Terry's leadership."

Cynthia Richmond has worked in planning, economic development and demographic analysis for more than 25 years. She joined Loudoun County's Office of Economic Development as assistant director in 1990. In 2005, she joined Arlington Economic Development as deputy director, where she has specialized in Research and Strategic Planning.

Richmond came to Loudoun from Columbus, Ohio, where she served as a Regional Economist for Batelle Memorial Institute. She has a Master's degree in City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University. She and her husband, Mark Lewis, a scientist, live in Arlington.

The County will soon begin a recruitment process to permanently fill the position of Director of Economic Development.
