Harris Teeter to Reopen South Glebe Road Location in Late Fall

Grocery store has remained closed since May 2012 following an interior flood.

Harris Teeter announced Monday it will reopen its store located at 3600 S. Glebe Road in late fall 2013.

The grocery store has remained closed since May 2012 following an interior flood caused by a sewage backup.

According to a release from the company’s Charlotte, N.C. headquarters, the location is undergoing a complete renovation, including:

…all new flooring; new drywall and paint; updated equipment; wooden display cases; new fixtures; an expanded seating area; an expanded floral department; new prepared food stations including pizza, an Asian hot bar, and a made-to-order sandwich bar; and sustainable décor elements. The Company also re-designed its pharmacy to feature an open floor plan that will allow our pharmacists to better serve their customers.

Arlington County officials said Saturday the county was prepared to do everything in its power, including expediting the permitting process, to help Harris Teeter reopen its store.

The response came when a resident of the Eclipse condominiums delivered 415 signed letters to the Arlington County Board requesting the local government "take any and all actions necessary to hasten the reopening" of the popular grocery store.

“Harris Teeter looks forward to opening its Potomac Yard store and being a part of the community once again,” the release reads. “We appreciate our customers’ patience while the store has been closed as well as their loyalty.”

Harris Teeter has other locations in West End Alexandria (4641 Duke St., Alexandria), Shirlington (4250 Campbell Ave., Arlington) and Pentagon Row (900 Army Navy Dr., Arlington).

A new Harris Teeter that will be part of a mixed-use development in North Old Town is currently under construction.
