Incoming Arlington Board Chairman Fisette to Lay Out 2014 Priorities on New Year's Day

Traditional New Year's Day organizational meeting is Wednesday.

Incoming Arlington County Board Chairman Jay Fisette will lay out his priorities for 2014 at the board's annual organizational meeting, which will be held on New Year's Day.

Fisette is expected to officially be elected chairman at the 11 a.m. Wednesday meeting. Mary Hynes is expected to be elected vice chairwoman.

The board's New Year's Day meeting traditionally is a time of looking forward. All five members will make remarks.

The board, too, is expected to adopt a meeting schedule and procedures for 2014, plus procedures for budget and tax rate public hearings.

County staff is recommending board members continue a policy that prohibits a tie-breaking vote in case of a tie. In such instances, votes fail for lack of a majority.

Fisette was sworn in to a fifth term on Dec. 17. He previously served as board chairman in 2001, 2005 and 2010.
