Kaine Stumps with Planned Parenthood in Arlington

Kaine: Federal personhood legislation is 'dangerous.'

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine participated in a Planned Parenthood "Women are Watching" rally Sunday at Virginia Highlands Park near Pentagon City in Arlington.

Kaine spoke about the importance of allowing women to make their own health care decisions, according to his campaign.

“Women’s lives are not political issues, women’s lives are not wedge issues. Women have the ability to make their own health care decisions and their own moral decisions,” he said, according to a news release.

“There has never been a time when we’ve needed fewer wedge issues. The two sides are already too far apart. We need more glue issues that can bind us together.”

Kaine also criticized Republican candidate George Allen's positions on women's health issues and called federal personhood legislation "dangerous."

Allen believes that life begins at conception and supports "declaring the personhood of every individual life," according to his campaign website.

Kaine and Allen are both former Virginia governors.

More than 200 people participated in the rally, according to the Kaine campaign.
