President Obama, Former President Clinton to Visit McLean for Fundraiser

McLean residents Terry and Dorothy McAuliffe hosting fundraiser

President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton will visit McLean at the end of April for a fundraising party at the home of Dorothy and Terry McAuliffe, according to McAuliffe's office.

The McAuliffes "will host an event for the Obama campaign featuring both Presidents on April 29," said Levar Stoney, a top aide to McAuliffe, confirming an earlier report in The Washington Post.

The event, a fundraiser for the president's re-election, was put together by McAuliffe, whose Old Dominion Drive home is a favorite address for local and national Democratic fundraisers.

Tickets to the general reception will be $1,000.

McAuliffe is a businessman, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, former head of Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential bid and .

"The presidents’ appearance in Virginia speaks to the importance of the swing state in both the presidential and U.S. Senate races in November," the Post reported.

This will be Clinton's second visit to the McAuliffes' home for a Democratic fundraiser. The former president came in October 2011 to help the Virginia Senate Democratic Caucus raise more than $1 million.

Virginia is considered a crucial state for Obama's re-election and Democrats' hopes of retaining their thin majority in the U.S. Senate. Obama won Virginia, North Carolina and Florida in 2008, the first time in years that a Democrat had made inroads in the once reliably Republican South.

Republicans now control the Virginia House of Delegates, the state Senate and the Governor's Office.

McAuliffe is widely expected to run for governor again next year. He lost a three-way Democratic primary in 2009.
