StayArlington Launches Mobile App

App allows visitors and residents to search for dining, shopping and event information for Arlington and Washington.

StayArlington, the Arlington Convention and Visitors Service website, launched a mobile app Tuesday designed to help visitors — and in-county wanderers — find restaurants, stores, events and recreational opportunities among the county's urban villages.

Visiting stayarlington.com or searching for "Stay Arlington" will allow mobile or desktop users to find searchable visitor information and numerous dining, shopping and other listings with travel distance information, according to a county news release. That includes walking and driving directions, plus public transit options.

Restaurants can be sorted by food type and daily event listings are available for Arlington and nearby Washington.

The app's icon is a silhouette of the Marine Corps War Memorial. Hotel reservation service through aResTravel.com is embedded on the site.

Efforts by various tourism initiatives helped drive a 7-percent increase in Arlington visitor spending from 2009 to 2010, Arlington Convention and Visitor Service Director Emily Cassell said in a statement.

Visitor services now reach about 30 percent more travelers to Arlington than the county's former Pentagon Row storefront visitors center, the news release states.

“The mobile version of StayArlington.com reinforces our strategy of proactively serving visitors in the neighborhoods in which they’re staying,” Cassell stated. “It’s an approach that not only makes for a positive guest experience, but also directly benefits Arlington businesses through increased visitor spending.”
