Tracking Frank: Ultra-Runner Fumich Arrives in New Jersey

Arlington's Frank Fumich and friend Matt Nelson are in the midst of running the 450 miles from the Pentagon to the finish line of the Boston Marathon to raise money for marathon victims.

Arlington’s own Frank Fumich, as of late Wednesday evening, had run from the Pentagon to Trenton, NJ.

With their eyes on a finish line still hundreds of miles away, Fumich and his friend, Matt Nelson of Lake Worth, Fla., were in the midst of a 450-mile run to raise money for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

They are scheduled to hit the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street in Boston Saturday at noon. They are inviting Boston-area runners to join them for the last two miles.

According to Fumich’s Facebook page, the pair have hit a few snafus—they had no police escort in Pennsylvania and had a few close calls with cars while running on highway medians and breakdown lanes for a time. For safety, they decided to drive 11 miles to the New Jersey state line where state police were ready to escort them as they ran to New York.

With an ultimate goal of raising at least $78,600, they have already raised more than $63,000 online.

The money they raise will go to the family of Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy who was killed in the marathon bombings and whose relatives were injured, and to Jeffrey Bauman, who lost both legs in the bombing and was integral in identifying the Boston marathon bombing suspects.

A description of the full route is also available. The pair planned to run through Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Del., Princeton, N.J., Newark, New York City — through Ground Zero — Hopkinton, Mass., and end in Boston.
