Spring is in the Air - Running Shoes on my Feet

An introduction to me, training for the Marine Corps Marathon with two children and what comes next.

I know, spring technically started in March, but I am slow.  I officially started my spring training, and marathon training, last week.

I just love spring, especially here in DC.  I moved from Georgia recently, and in central Georgia spring lasts approximately 3.7 days.  After that it is just plain hot.  So I am a little mad at myself for not getting out to run earlier this spring.  But that is neither here nor there.  My point is the training has started, and there is no looking back.

I committed myself (by registering and paying lots of money) to the Marine Corps Marathon on October 30.  That is 24 weeks from now.  That is a reasonable amount of time to train for a marathon…for someone who is in shape.   I am not that someone.  So this is going to be interesting, painful, and fun.  This is my first marathon.  It very possibly may be my last.  Either way, it is my commitment to get back in shape after my second child.

I have a lot on my plate so it is going to require some serious juggling.  I just started a new job.  I am starting a business. I am blogging about running.  Oh, and I have two kids.  But I love to share my experiences with other moms.  I always enjoy talking with women about running.  I like to encourage other moms to start running.  So if I inspire just one mom to start running I consider it a success.  I also want to prove it can be done.  And I want the satisfaction of saying, “I trained for and ran the Marine Corps Marathon and survived.”
