The Fourth of July in Arlington: Road Closures, Shuttle Services, Security Information

Remember: Alcohol is not allowed at Arlington County or federal parks, and coolers and backpacks will be subject to search at Iwo Jima and Long Bridge.

The Arlington County Police Department, U.S. Park Police and state Department of Transportation will close several roads on the Fourth of July, which is Thursday.

The closures, which include Memorial Bridge and Memorial Circle for most of the day, are designed to accommodate the large crowds that are expected to turn out for Independence Day events and fireworks viewing.

Authorities are strongly encouraging people who want to participate in the festivities to use public transportation. The Rosslyn Metro Station is about five blocks north of the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the Air Force Memorial is within walking distance from the Pentagon City Metro Station.

Further, Arlington County will run shuttle buses to Long Bridge Park from the Crystal City and Pentagon City Metro stations. Long Bridge Park is the site of a day-long Independence Day festival and popular viewing area for DC fireworks.

Anyone with questions about street closings or traffic can call the Arlington County Police Department's Special Operations Section at 703-228-4141.
