Arlington-Based Group Hosts Vice President on Capitol Hill

TAPS is a national organization providing compassionate care for the families of America's fallen military.

Families of fallen troops attending a Capitol Hill reception Wednesday for the Arlington-based nonprofit Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) on Capitol Hill got a surprise when Vice President Joe Biden stopped in to talk with them and hear their stories.

"I'm indebted to you as an American and grateful to you as the Vice President,” said Biden. The reception was hosted by Sen. Mark Begich of Alaska, and was held at the Hill Center. TAPS is based in Arlington, Va., near the Clarendon metro.

Biden spoke at the TAPS National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp in 2012, when he addressed hundreds of bereaved military families and shared his own grief journey after the deaths of his first wife and infant daughter in a car accident. The video of his speech remains the most-watched video on the SupportTAPS YouTube channel, with 100,415 views.
