Female Brewers Gather in Arlington for a Good Cause

Female brewers from around the world raised their glasses Saturday in Shirlington for the International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (#IWCB).

They had a lot of fun and raised money for a variety of charities.

More than 70 breweries participated, including DC’s own Capitol City Brewing Company, which hosted an all-female brewing event with numerous local "brewsters."

Kristi Griner, director of brewing operations at Capitol City, hosted a team of ladies from Devil’s Backbone, DC Brau, Meridian Pint, Port City and several home brewers to create the Unite Pale Ale, tapping at both Capitol City locations and Meridian Pint later this month.

A portion of the proceeds from the beer sales will be donated to the Pink Boots Society, an organization with the goal of educating and empowering women beer professionals to succeed in the business.

Participants included: Stephanie Strazisar, Meridian Pint; Tammy Portnoy, Port City; Andrea Wilkinson, Port City; Rachael Cardwell, Brewer; Megan O’Leary Paris, Brewer; April Anderson, Devil’s Backbone; Kristi Griner, Capitol City; Becky Jordan, Beer Chef of Chef Beckles Foods; Allison Lange, Port City; Janet Crowe, homebrewer and B.U.R.P. club member, and Mari Rodeli, co-owner DC Brau.
