Big Band Christmas: Join Bob Gibson's Big Band for traditional and modern jazz with vocals by Arlington's Maureen McDonnell at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Metro 29 Diner, 4711 Lee Highway.

Christmas Bird Count: Join a naturalist at Potomac Overlook Regional Park for the annual Christmas Bird Count. Binoculars will be available. It's at 8 a.m. Saturday. More information here.

Clarendon's Finest Bar Crawl: Dress up in your finest holiday costume and hit the town. The crawl starts at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mister Days, 3100 Clarendon Blvd. More information here.

Potomac Yard Park Opens: An opening ceremony for the 21-acre linear park on the eastern edge of the new Potomac Yard development will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday.
