This Week: DIY iPhoto Gifts, State of the County and More

Five things in and around Arlington this week.

School's Out for the Winter! Friday is the last day of school for Arlington Public School students before the Christmas holidays. Students return to school on Thursday, Jan. 2.

iGifts Workshop: The Apple Store in Clarendon will hold a workshop on creating holiday gifts with your photos from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday. Learn how to make one-of-a-kind gifts with iPhoto on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. More information here.

Bridging the Workplace Generation Gap: Four generations can now be found in the workplace — traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Gen Xers and Millenials. The Leadership Arlington Speaker Series at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday will explore the challenges and opportunities represented by the spread of generations, along with best practices for understanding and appreciating your own generational influences. The event, at 2775 S. Quincy St., costs $40 for Leadership Arlington members or $50 for the general public. More information here.

State of the County: Arlington County Board member Jay Fisette will be sworn in to his fifth term at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the board's recessed meeting. The ceremony will be followed by a reception and meet-and-greet. Arlington County Board Chairman Walter Tejada will deliver a State of the County review at 6:30 p.m. Tejada will also announce the board members' choice for next year's chairman and vice chairman. Dance at the Colvin Run Dance Hall: Enjoy a night of dancing at the Colvin Run Dance Hall, 10201 Colvin Run Road in Great Falls, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. For $15, the evening begins with a Viennese Waltz lesson by Craig Bukowski. The dance follows from 9 to 11:30 p.m. Dress is "ballroom casual." Everyone is welcome. More information here.
