Oktoberfest in Shirlington And Four Other Things to Do This Weekend

Five things in Arlington and across Northern Virginia this weekend.

Oktoberfest! The 14th annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest, hosted by the Capitol City Brewing Co., will be from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday in the Village at Shirlington. Featuring more than 50 local and international brewers, live music and the debut of two new beers, Oktoberfest will be held rain or shine. Beer drinkers will pay $25 to get in for a wristband, official tasting glass and 10 drink tickets. Additional drink tickets are $1 each with a five-ticket minimum. Art on the Avenue: Del Ray’s centerpiece annual art festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday along Mount Vernon Avenue. The event includes hundreds of artists lining the Avenue selling their wares as well as bands, kids’ activities, food and the ever-popular pie-baking contest. Furloughed fed? Take a class at your local YMCA. The chain of fitness and wellness centers is offering complimentary passes at all of its Washington, DC area locations for the duration of the government shut down.

Growing Native:  Growing native is a regional service project designed for volunteers of all ages to collect native tree seeds. Want to help? Be at Lubber Run Park at North Columbus and 2nd Street at 10 a.m. Saturday. More info here.

Arlington Fun Ride: The Arlington Fun Ride is a family-friendly 17-mile loop around Arlington including multiple pit stops with snacks along with music, games and other activities at the finish. The adult and youth ride starts at 8 a.m. Saturday in Crystal City, at 18th Street and Crystal Drive and the 3-mile kids ride starts at 10 a.m. $10 for individuals, $25 for families (up to four individuals).
