Hoots and Hellmouth at IOTA, Nature Study, JFK Walk and More This Weekend

Five things in and around Arlington to help get your weekend started.

Hoots and Hellmouth: See the Philadelphia band that NPR described as twisting "the many roots of Americana to create its signature sound — an ever-shifting blend of folk, rock, country, bluegrass and blues." Hoots and Hellmouth usually perform without a drummer, preferring instead to stomp and find other means of percussion. The band will be at IOTA Club & Cafe in Arlington at 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $12.

JFK Walk: Join the FreeWalkers for a 22-mile walk on Friday to pay homage to President John F. Kennedy on the 50th anniversary of his death. The free event starts at 6:30 a.m. Friday at Roosevelt Island, goes through the district and culminates at the Kennedy gravesite at Arlington National Cemetery. More information here.

Cardinal Nature Study Adventure: Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to join a naturalist at Potomac Overlook Regional Park, at 2845 N. Marcey Road in Arlington, to investigate the park's many creatures and features — and create a journal along the way. The journal is included in the $7 registration fee. The adventure starts at 4 p.m. Friday. More information here.
