The Washington Nationals' All-Star pitcher will be signing limited edition copies of Athletes Quarterly Magazine at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City.
Washington Nationals All-Star Pitcher Gio Gonzalez will be signing exclusive, limited edition copies of Athletes Quarterly Magazine on Saturday at the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. Only 200 copies of the magazine will be available, and fans can get theirs by donating $50 to the Gio Foundation at GioFoundation.org, according to a news release. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children's National Medical Center in Washington. Magazines will be handed out Saturday morning starting at 10:30 a.m. The signing will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the mall's third level near Helzberg Diamonds. Pre-autographed baseball memorabilia will be on sale during the event.

Raise money to support turtles, local wildlife at Long Branch Nature Center.
You can help support local wildlife, including turtles, at the Turtle Trot 5K road race in Arlington Saturday morning. The 5K run, which is a chip-timed race on a certified course, is set to start at 10 a.m. with registration at 9 a.m. The race begins at Lower Bluemont Park, 329 North Manchester Street in Arlington. According to the event organizers, proceeds from the race will go toward the care of injured turtles and wildlife and for educational programs at Long Branch Nature Center. The Center receives injured turtles and other wildlife that need help throughout the year and helps to release them back into the wild. Chantilly beat Yorktown 8-4 in a regular season matchup.
After scoring 11 or more goals in their respective first round matchups, Yorktown High School will travel to Chantilly High School for a Regional Quarter Final matchup Thursday at 7. Yorktown (12-6 on the season) defeated Stonebridge High School 11-10 Tuesday while Chantilly (16-1) dismantled Annandale High 15-5. The two schools faced off in April with Chantilly getting the best of Yorktown in an 8-4 win.

National Bike Week culminates Friday with National Bike to Work Day. Fortunately for bikers, the weather should be just a little on the warm side of perfect—Thursday night temperatures be in the low 60s, high temperatures Friday around 80 degrees. Forecasters also predict partly cloudy skies and just a 10 percent chance of rain. In the community room above the Cherrydale Community Fire Department, children not even 5 feet tall learn to attack, feint and lunge at opponents. “Ready? Fence!” a pack of children shout at once as the sound of colliding swords fills the room. The children are learning the ancient craft of swordplay as members of the Arlington Fencers’ Club, a group of fencing aficionados who promote fencing through youth programs. Every week, 20 children ages 6 through 14 hone their skills thanks to some help from an Olympic champion. Coach Becca Ward took home two bronze medals in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships were Saturday on the Occoquan River.
The women's crew from Washington-Lee took defeated five other teams in the Women's 1st Eight Petite final. The team's time was 5:33.70, besting Lake Braddock by more than a second. The men's team placed third in the Mens 1st Eight Final later in the afternoon and fifth in the Mens 2nd Eight Final.
