Maryland Man Guilty of Robbery, Abduction; Arlington Jury Recommends 95 Years

Commonwealth's Attorney's Office: Victims' testimony helped lead to conviction.

Storme Gary Swann, 51, formerly of La Plata, Md., was found guilty this week in Arlington County Circuit Court of two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction and one count of statutory burglary. A jury found Swann guilty Thursday following a three-day trial and recommended a 95-year sentence, according to an Arlington County Police Department news release. On Aug. 14, 2010, Swann forced his way into a hotel room and assaulted, detained and bound two female tourists — a 73-year-old woman and her 51-year-old daughter, both visiting from Canada, the release states. The hotel was in the 2400 block of South Glebe Road. Swann robbed them of cash, jewelry and electronics and sexually assaulted one of them, the release states. Swann's criminal …

Police: Man Charged with Strangling Girlfriend During Fight

William Kennedy, of Arlington, is being held without bond.

A 53-year-old Arlington man has been charged with strangling his girlfriend during a domestic dispute. Between 8 and 9:15 p.m. Sunday, William Kennedy and his girlfriend were arguing over Kennedy's son, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said. The two were at Kennedy's apartment on the 2300 block of South 24th Road when the argument escalated into a physical altercation, Sternbeck said. During the fight, Kennedy choked the woman and wouldn't let her leave the apartment, according to police. He also allegedly prevented her from calling 911. Police eventually were called and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released.
