The channel is off the air due to Superstorm Sandy.
The Clarendon-based Arlington Independent Media is off the air for the foreseable future after a power outage affected the channel's servers. The full message from AIM's newsletter: We hope all of our members and friends made it through Hurricane Sandy safe and sound! While thankfully we did not experience flooding or facility damage at AIM, we did, much like most of Clarendon, experience major power outages. At some point during the storm these power hits caused damage to the server that programs the channel. The server could take a few days to repair and AIM will be off the air during that time. From walking and biking to the proposed Columbia Pike trolley, from the cost of living in Arlington to the cost of doing business here, the three candidates for one seat on the Arlington County Board covered a wide range of topics Thursday night at a Patch-Arlington Independent Media forum. Democratic incumbent Libby Garvey faced Green Party candidate Audrey Clement and Republican Matt Wavro in the hour-long live event at AIM's studio in Clarendon. Patch and Arlington Independent Media will host a forum for Arlington County Board candidates that will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Thursday. AIM will rebroadcast the forum multiple times before the November election. Patch also will feature the video on its Arlington County and Clarendon-Courthouse sites. Next month, voters will determine who represents them from the federal to the local level. Arlington County Board member Libby Garvey, a Democrat, faces opposition from Republican Matt Wavro and Green Party candidate Audrey Clement. Garvey won a special election earlier this year to fill the unexpired term of Barbara Favola, who ascended to the state Senate. That term expires at the end of this year. Arlington Independent Media enjoyed a strong show of support Tuesday night when residents, artists and a wide range of professionals told story after story about how the nonprofit public access channel benefited the community. Six extraordinary teens produced two documentaries on The Arts in Arlington and The Ballston-Rossyln Corridor for the Document Arlington Project.
Arlington Independent Media celebrated the premiere of the 2010 Document Arlington Project, Thursday, with documentaries on The Arts in Arlington and the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor. The Document Arlington Project is a partnership between Arlington Independent Media and the Arlington Public Schools Humanities Project. "The Humanities Project brings artists into schools and five years ago the director of the Humanities Project and I were trying to talk about some way to do a cooperation or partnership," said Jackie Steven, Director of Community Programming at AIM.
