Update (4:53 p.m.): The body found Monday afternoon in the area of Gravelly Point Park in Arlington is that of 83-year-old Victoria Kong, who was reported missing Friday, the U.S. Park Police have confirmed. "The exact location was north of the airport, south of Gravelly Point off the George Washington Parkway approximately 30 feet from the bike trail in a wooded area," spokesman Paul Brooks said in an email. A search and rescue team with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police Department found Kong, according to Brooks. The investigation is ongoing. About 800 people were evacuated from the Naval Support Facility at 701 S. Courthouse Road on Thursday after a white, powdery substance was found in the facility's mailroom, according to the Federal Times. The Arlington County Fire Department's Hazmat Team responded and determined it to be a non-hazardous substance, Capt. Gregg Karl told Patch. Investigators were in the process of clearing the scene shortly after noon. Fire personnel also were dispatched to reports of white powder on the Ballston Pond near Fairfax Drive and Interstate 66. A two-alarm fire destroyed a North Arlington home on Tuesday, and at least two people were hospitalized, according to fire officials. The Arlington County Fire Department was first called to the 2300 block of North Dinwiddie Street at about 10:40 a.m. Firefighters arrived quickly, and the blaze was extinguished about 30 minutes later, Capt. Gregg Karl told Patch. Investigators believe three people were inside the home. Neighbors said two people jumped from a second story window to escape and were taken to Washington Hospital Center for burn and respiratory injuries before the Fire Department arrived, Karl said. NORFOLK — One leg of every Pentagon symbol aboard the USS Arlington is darkened to remind its crew of the southwest wall of the structure that a plane crashed into on 9/11. Arlington County Fire Chief James Schwartz, who served as incident commander at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, said he was glad to see all the "touches from home" aboard the USS Arlington. The U.S. Navy commissioned the ship this weekend at Naval Station Norfolk. The fire was reported on the 2000 block of South Lowell Street.
A fire on the 2000 block of South Lowell Street Thursday morning sent two children to the hospital, according to Arlington County Fire Department officials. The fire was reported at 7:36 a.m. and was extinguished about 15 minutes later, according to Arlington County's Chief Fire Marshall Dan Fitch. "On arrival, they had fire showing from all the windows on the front of the house," Fitch said. Two adults and two children were in the home at the time. The adults were uninjured, but the two children had to be taken to an area hospital to be treated for what Fitch described as injuries that were not life threatening. A family dog also died in the fire, Fitch said. Investigators are currently investigating the cause.

The fire was reported in the 900 block of South Orme Street in Arlington.
Six people were taken to the hospital Saturday morning after a fire broke out at an Arlington duplex. The fire was reported at about 10:45 a.m. in the 900 block of South Orme Street off of Columbia Pike, according to Arlington County Fire Department Capt. Gregg Karl. Six people reported injuries that were described as non-life threatening, Karl said. The fire is being investigated by Arlington County fire marshals.

The Arlington County Fire Department responded to a commercial fire alarm at about 7 p.m. Thursday at 14th Street North and Courthouse Road. The fire was in a back room of a dry cleaning business, one of three retail establishments in the county-owned Thomas Building. Responders knocked the fire down "pretty quickly," Capt. Gregg Karl told Patch. Karl was unaware of any injuries. At about 7:30 p.m., firefighters remained on scene checking to make sure the fire didn't spread to adjacent businesses or nearby buildings. Santa Claus will be escorted to the event by the Arlington County Fire Department.
Linden Resources, a nonprofit whose mission is to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities, will host its annual Miracle on 23rd Street celebration Friday night. Outdoor festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The event, free and open to anyone, includes a festive tree lighting, Santa Claus arriving on an Arlington County fire truck, holiday music performances, children's activities and food. The celebration continues inside Linden Resources headquarters, 750 S. 23rd St., which will feature holiday cards and other items.
