W&L IB Students sell chocolate-covered bananas to raise money for a Costa Rican school in need
Drive past Washington and Lee High School as the students are being released and you are sure to notice that anywhere between 75 and 100 of them are devouring chocolate-covered bananas. "It's quite funny to see," laughed Chad DeMagistris, coordinator of the IB program that is behind the banana sale. "It's a unique item to sell, but they have been extremely popular." The IB (International Baccalaureate) students are involved in an exchange program with an IB private school in Costa Rica. Several of the students went there to visit earlier this year, and students from both schools went to visit a one-room schoolhouse in the small town of Tirimbina, Costa Rica.
