Engle lists party affiliation as independent in campaign to unseat Democratic Del. Rob Krupicka.
Alexandria resident Jeffrey Engle has launched a campaign to run for the state's 45th House District. The seat represents part of Alexandria, along with parts of Arlington and Fairfax counties in the Virginia General Assembly. The seat is currently held by Del. Rob Krupicka, one of four Democrats who represent Arlington in the House of Delegates. In a statement of organization filed with the State Board of Elections, Engle lists an address in Alexandria as his residence and his political party as independent. Independent candidates wishing to run in the general election are required to submit their nomination petitions by June 11. Nomination petitions must contain the signatures of at least 125 qualified voters in the legislative district…

Bill would impose harsher penalties, make texting while driving a primary offense.
A bill that would impose tougher penalties on those convicted of texting while driving cleared the state Senate on Tuesday and now heads to the desk of Gov. Bob McDonnell. The bill increases the fine to $250 — up from $20 — for the first texting-while-driving offense and $500 for each subsequent conviction. It also makes texting while driving an aggravating circumstance to reckless driving, and so anyone convicted of such would face a mandatory minimum $500 penalty if they were texting while they were driving recklessly. Texting while driving would also become a primary offense, which means police can stop someone on the suspicion that a driver is texting; current law allows police to charge someone with texting while driving only if they'…

A bill introduced in the Virginia General Assembly would make texting while driving a more serious offense — and the penalties upon conviction would be up to one year in jail and up to a $2,500 fine. It's not the first time such a measure has been proposed. But advocates say a recent court ruling that differentiates texting while driving from reckless driving should give them the support they need to get the bill through the General Assembly this year. Former Alexandria City Councilman Rob Krupicka says education will be an area of focus for him in Richmond.
Rob Krupicka is officially a state delegate. The former Alexandria City Council member was sworn in Friday morning in Richmond as the representative to the 45th District in the House of Delegates. Krupicka’s wife Lisa, their two daughters and several friends joined Krupicka as he took the oath of office. “I’m honored to be entrusted with representing the interests of the residents of the 45th District,” Krupicka said in a press release. Rob Krupicka picked up the endorsement of State Sen. Adam Ebbin (D-30th) on Wednesday in the race to replace David Englin as state delegate from the 45th District. Del. David Englin tells Gov. Bob McDonnell he hopes a special election will be held on Nov. 6.
Del. David Englin (D-45th) announced Thursday that he has submitted his resignation from the House of Delegates effective Aug. 31 and endorsed Karen Gautney to replace him. In April, Englin announced he would not seek re-election to focus on rebuilding his marriage and family. He admitted to being unfaithful to his wife. In his resignation notice to Gov. James Lander believes he can go to Richmond and build bridges that will help Democrats in the House of Delegates advance their agenda and move this state forward.
