Photos: The 2013 Presidential Inauguration at the National Mall

The swearing-in ceremony for the second inauguration of President Barack Obama was held Monday in Washington.

History was made Monday in Washington with the swearing-in ceremonies for President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for their second terms of office, and supporters traveled near and far to witness the occasion.  From sunrise to sunset, Patch was at the National Mall. Unofficial crowd estimates were that 1 million people were on hand for the event. It was a long day for the Obama family, starting out at 8:30 a.m. with a service across the street from the White House at St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square. From there, the president, first lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha, returned to the White House. PHOTOS: Obama Speaks at Washington-Lee

Juniors, seniors each allowed to bring one parent.

President Barack Obama spoke to Washington-Lee High School juniors and seniors on Friday. Obama received a rock star's welcome from the crowd of more than 1,000.  The speech he delivered was designed to put pressure on Congress to extend interest rate cuts to student loans past July 1, at which point they are set to expire.
