The Saturday Sauté

Chipotle Soup

This soup will be a delicious treat for your March Madness party guests. The bacon and chipotle peppers make this a smoky and spicy hit!

I NEED A BREAK!!! Things have suddenly become hectic at work, home, church...everywhere. I’m exhausted. This has resulted in eating dinners of toast and cereal - NOT my usual style. So, to help me out, my husband cooked his famous Chipotle Soup. He created this recipe after having homemade Chipotle Soup made by a former co-worker. He took out the cheese and the cream-based broth, added a couple ingredients, and created a healthier, very tasty...and very spicy soup. I love it...when he uses the peppers sparingly. This is a great soup to serve at your final four games this week. It’s healthy, hearty and chocked full of chicken and bacon. Delicious! The Saturday Sauté

Kale and Roasted Vegetable Soup

This healthy, nutrient packed soup will keep you warm on these cold winter days. The roasted vegetables and kale simmered in a delicious, rich tasting broth will keep you satisfied all season long (and will keep your waistline in check!)

Ballston...Virginia Square...the holidays have been rough on my waistline. I know I can't be alone in this. Mine might be a little extreme: having both the Saturday Saute and the Holiday Saute going on at the same time meant a lot of cooking and a lot of eating (specifically painful was the "cookie week" of the Holiday Saute that lasted about twice as long as it should have. That was a LOT of cookies and a lot of calories). As today is New Year's Day and since one of the most popular resolutions is to lose weight or eat healthier, I thought it right to try to encourage all of you to stick to it! I do not want to be your stumbling block, tempting you all with any non-healthy foods. Therefore, I have dedicated January to healthy eating. The …

Turkey Soup

I make this version of my mom's turkey soup every year. Try it out and season it to your liking! It's a great way to use some of that leftover turkey!

It's almost a crime to talk about what to do with Thanksgiving leftovers prior to actual Thanksgiving. Much like Christmas Decorations going up in the Ballston Mall the day after Halloween (or close to it!), I feel like I'm jumping the gun a little bit. But it's always good to have a game plan as to what to do with leftovers. We always visit my husband's aunt/uncle for Thanksgiving, and we're stopping by a second Thanksgiving...and we (foolishly) cooked our own turkey on Monday. My husband loves leftover turkey, and last year we didn't have much leftover. This year...I think we'll have overdone it. So I decided to make my Turkey Soup a little early, and share the recipe with all of you. The problem is that I never wrote it down before, and…

Pumpkin Soup

This unique twist on a traditional pumpkin soup is sure to warm you up on a crisp fall day.

I love soup. Especially in the fall/winter. Especially squash based soup. For me, it doesn't get any better than a butternut squash or pumpkin based soup. Which drives my husband nuts-as he hates that type of soup because it essentially "just tastes like blended baby food." His words. So...I wanted to find a unique, grown-up pumpkin soup to try out this week to get him to change his mind. I wanted something sophisticated and delicious: something that would make an excellent start to a delicious fall meal. What I found was in a cookbook I got for my wedding. This pumpkin soup we are about to try is flavored with coconut milk- giving this soup a sweet taste...and jalapenos-which adds a very spicy flavor. If you're looking for some bland …
