Arlington Board Puts Brakes on All-Electric Taxi Fleet

EV Taxicabs wanted to launch the country's first all-electric fleet in Arlington.

EV Taxicabs will not launch of the nation's first all-electric taxi fleet here. The Arlington County Board on Monday would not give its blessing to the venture, voting 3-2 against issuing the necessary operator certificates to the Arlington-based startup.  "Arlington is my hometown. I wanted to start it here," Malik Khattak, president of EV Taxicabs, said afterward. "I can't speak to their personal concerns, but we did our best to address each and every issue." Arlington County Board members Jay Fisette and Libby Garvey voted in the affirmative. One thing the public needs to know is that the company was going to make the drivers buy the vehicles which is going to cost them 35-40k on a new technology which for normal use might be ok but not as a cab because you have to use a.c and heater plus the dispatch and credit card machines are additional power draining gadgets I was so surprised to find out even enviro cab made the drivers buy the …   more ›

All-Electric Taxi Company Hopes to Launch in Arlington

Arlington County Board will vote Monday on whether to issue EV Taxicabs the appropriate certificates.

An Arlington-based startup will find out Monday if it has won the hearts and minds — and votes — of enough elected officials in order to launch a 100-percent electric taxi fleet. EV Taxicabs is among the companies the Arlington County Board could award certificates to that would allow them operate here. The company is in line for 40 certificates and has promised to install 56 charging stations around Arlington, which would be available for public use.
