Virginia senator said his three daughters asked him Friday what he was going to do about school shootings.
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., wants to tighten gun laws, saying "enough is enough" in the wake of the Connecticut school shootings Friday that saw 20 young children and six adults killed. “I‘ve been a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights," Warner said Monday in Richmond, according to The Washington Post. “I’ve got an A rating from the NRA. But the status quo isn’t acceptable. I’ve got three daughters," Warner said. U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., announced Tuesday that he will not run for governor in 2013, saying that he wants to continue the work he was sent to do in Washington. Warner, in a statement issued shortly after 3 p.m., said Virginians of all political stripes have approached him over the past year to make the bid — which he said he would consider and then make a decision after the November election. "I’ve talked to a lot of Virginians I respect, and I’ve talked about it with my family," Warner said in a statement. State party convention drew more than 2,000 to the city of Fairfax this weekend.

Public-private partnership looks at ways to work with counterparts across the pond.
Virginia Tech kicked off what officials hope is a long-term partnership between the United States and the United Kingdom this week at its new state-of-the-art research center in Ballston. “The goal… is to begin the international discussion regarding collaboration when it comes to advanced manufacturing,” said Don Leo, the school’s associate vice president for research in the National Capital Region. Webb, Warner, Moran and Connolly question DoD Transportation Management and Occupation Plans for Mark Center property
Today, U.S. Reps. Jim Moran (D-8), Gerry Connolly (D-11) and Democratic Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner sent a letter of concern to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. They're worried that Interstate 395 will be a traffic-choked mess because of inadequate transportation planning at the Mark Center by the Department of Defense. The Base Realignment and Closure move at the Mark Center property near I-395 and Seminary Road, is home to Washington Headquarters Services, which will receive 5,000 of its 6,400 total relocated employees by this December. The problem as I see it, is not with the guns that were used in Newtown. The problem was that the gun owner DID NOT SECURE HER WEAPONS. If she had the only available key to a gun safe on her or in a truly secret place, this would not have happened the way that it did. more ›
