The late March snow took some by surprise in Arlington County.
It's about a week into spring, but you wouldn't know that by looking outside your window Monday morning. Arlington saw about 2 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. County offices and services remained open as the snow lightly blanketed the area. Read more:

Arlington has seen about an inch of snow overnight, more then during the 'snowquester.'
While the snowquester failed a significant amount of snow to Arlington, snow lovers woke up to a surprising amount of Monday morning just a few days after the official start of Spring. "I can't believe it actually snowed!" wrote Twitter user @VTjawo, of Vienna. According to the latest data available from the National Weather Service, about an inch of snow has fallen in the couny as of 5 a.m. The weater service has issued a winter weather advisory in the area in effect until noon today, with an accumulation of up to 2 inches expected. Arlington County officials have not announced any closures. Arlington Public Schools are on spring break this week.

So long, snowquester.
Arlington Public Schools will be open Thursday, according to spokesman Frank Bellavia. The federal government, too, has announced that it will be open Thursday. Metro has announced it will run on a normal weekday schedule Thursday. No more than a half-inch of snow is expected to accumulate overnight in Arlington, according to the latest information from the National Weather Service.

Anyone hoping for a big snowfall in Arlington on Wednesday was likely disappointed. While some forecasts predicted double-digit accumulation, much of Arlington got only a rain-snow mix — making for a somewhat dreary, slushy afternoon. "I'm glad it's warming up," said Nottingham resident Derek Reynolds while shoveling slush from his driveway. "Hopefully, it will be spring sometime soon." By afternoon, the Clarendon-Courthouse area was simply a wet mess. Arlington County snow crews continued to work 24/7, though the county issued an early-afternoon news release stating, "It is quiet in Arlington." Snow accumulations predictions increased overnight; area under winter storm warning through 3 a.m. Thursday.
Due to the snow, classes are canceled for Arlington Public Schools students Wednesday. Arlington County government offices are also closed. The Office of Personnel Management announced the federal government is closed today, but telework and emergency employees should follow their agency's guidelines. Predictions early Wednesday indicated the area would see 6 to 12 inches of snow, if not more. The entire metropolitan area is under a winter storm warning through 3 a.m. Thursday morning (27 hours). Arlington crews will begin working 12-hour shifts at midnight; VDOT expects to deploy 4,000 trucks in Northern Virginia by 4 a.m. Wednesday.
With Arlington in line to see its heaviest snowfall of the season, the county's Department of Environmental Services is spending Tuesday preparing for full mobilization. The storm system is expected to dump 5 inches or more on Arlington starting late tonight. The Weather Channel has named this Winter Storm Saturn. The National Weather Service does not name snow storms. Locally, the name "snowquester" has caught on. Outlying areas of the Washington metro area could see as much as double the snowfall. Arlington County will operate 46 of its trucks and will secure six or more contract trucks as needed, spokeswoman Shannon Whalen McDaniel said in an email. All previously scheduled trackwork planned for Tuesday evening on the Metro has been canceled, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority announced. The trackwork has been canceled to allow staff to clear overnight snow in advance of Wednesday morning's opening, the Metro system reported.
