Saw your comment. My family has volunteered thousands of hours with dog rescue groups. Including I helped one of my sisters establish and operate a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Instead of the approach you used, in the future you may want to just ask how the two relate. For example, my leadership in animal welfare and my desire to serve our community in bringing common sense solutions to local government.
