This brings back memories of when my husband and I took dance lessons at Dance Factory four years ago for our wedding. (Agreed about the practice skirt--so helpful!) We had a similar experience with the patient instruction. The money, time and effort we put in were all worth it; we actually looked like we knew what we were doing during our first dance instead of just swaying. (I also must second your advice to couples about the length--one or two minutes is really perfectly sufficient.)
Congratulations and best wishes!

I went to the Red Door Spa in Pentagon Row over the summer after receiving a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure. Such a relaxing experience, and the staff was professional and efficient without making me feel like I was a number. Would definitely go back there at some point.

I highly recommend checking out women's roller derby at the Armory in D.C. It's a great time and fun for all age groups, including kids. There's a doubleheader on Saturday--doors open at 3:00, event starts at 4:00.
The DC Rollergirls website has more info about tickets and other details--http://dcrollergirls.com
