Sunday: Rosslyn's 'Invader' Among Competitors in 9-Pound Burger-Eating Contest

BGR, The Burger Joint is hosting the challenge at this year's Taste of DC.

A Rosslyn man is on one of three four-man teams that will compete at this year's Taste of DC in a 9-pound burger-eating contest.

BGR, The Burger Joint is hosting the first-ever competition at 2 p.m. Sunday at the district's annual event. It'll be on the Culinary Stage at 9th Street NW and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

The teams will each try to devour BGR's massive 9-pound burger patty, which will be piled with cheese, two heads of lettuce, eight tomatoes, three red onions, four whole pickles and the restaurant's signature Mojo sauce.

Ian "The Invader" Hickman, a 30-year-old Richmond native who lives in Rosslyn, will be on the DMV Eaters team, along with two men from Maryland and one from Dumfries.

"The DMV eaters work hard all week and rarely get time to relax.  We can't wait to enjoy 9 pounds of tasty burger for our chance to have some fun in the sun," the team stated as their motivation in a news release.

They'll be competing against the Be the Bruce team, which includes two Maryland guys, a 25-year-old "male-ish" from Philadelphia and Fat Mike Estler, a 35-year-old dude from Jersey; and against the #Eatitude team, which features a 28-year-old from Springfield, Va., and members from Connecticut, Iowa and Michigan "doing monumental things."

Winners get bragging rights, a donation in their name to breast cancer research, a five-night trip for for four to Mexico and BGR gift cards.

BGR will have other menu items at Taste of DC on Saturday and Sunday.

The restaurant has locations in Clarendon and on Lee Highway in Arlington.
