Speakers Announced for Summer Entrepreneurship Series in Arlington

Summer programs mark one-year anniversary of program by Arlington Economic Development and the George Mason Center for Social Entrepreneurship.

Arlington Economic Development and the George Mason Center for Social Entrepreneurship have announce the topics and speakers for their summer VentureCamp series of discussions.

The summer programs start Wednesday, Aug. 7, with "Women in Entrepreneurship."

"What does it mean to be a woman entrepreneur? What opportunities and challenges do female entrepreneurs face? How is the global climate changing for women in entrepreneurship? This session will delve into these questions and more," according to the event notice.

The free session will be from 6 to 7:30 at George Mason's Arlington campus and feature moderator Dana Taylor with Intelligent Ethos and the following panelists: Dr. Ruta Aidis, Center for Entrepreneurship and Public Policy, George Mason University; Beth Johnson, RP3 Agency; Brooke Salkoff, CampEasy; Dr. Amy Schiffman, Capital House Calls.

The series continues "Immigration and Entrepreneurship" at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14 and concludes at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 with "Wearable Computing."

"Venture Camp was created to offer students, summer interns and young professionals the opportunity to learn cutting edge entrepreneurial concepts, hear from leading practitioners and build entrepreneurial networks," Arlington Economic Development spokeswoman Cara O'Donell told Patch in an email.

Last year, the summer VentureCamp series attracted more than 400 people from across the Virginia, Maryland and DC region, according to O'Donnell.
