Police: Drunken Teen Hits Multiple Cars, Runs Over Officer's Foot

Arlington police say a drunken teenager crashed into multiple vehicles and ran over an officer's foot early Wednesday in a bizarre incident that ended with a DUI arrest.

The county received a call at 12:39 a.m. Wednesday reporting an individual driving a 2012 Chrysler 300 up the incline of a yard in an apartment complex, in what appeared to be an attempt to get the car into that complex's common area, police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said.

Sternbeck did not know the exact block number of the incident, but said it was in the Hall's Hill neighborhood. That's generally the area between North George Mason Drive and North Glebe Road immediately south of Lee Highway.

The young man, who police say was 18-year-old Victor Solano of Arlington, failed at his first attempt to climb the hill, and his car rolled backward into a parked vehicle. He failed at his second attempt, and the vehicle he struck that time was occupied, Sternbeck said. That's who called police.

Officers arrived minutes later and turned on their blue lights and sirens.

Solano attempted to drive away and hit several other vehicles in the process, including a police cruiser, Sternbeck said.

At one point, Solano's car was stopped in the road and an officer stood in front of it, gun drawn. He ordered the young man out of the car.

"The guy behind the wheel is ramming police cruisers, putting our officers' lives in danger," Sternbeck said.

Solano did not comply, and instead drove his car over the curb to go around the officer — running over the cop's foot in the process, Sternbeck said.

Heading back down the road, he struck the same police cruiser a second time and then another vehicle before coming to a stop, Sternbeck said. He tried to get out of the vehicle and run away but was subdued. He was apprehended at 1:14 a.m.

Sternbeck estimated at least five civilian cars were damaged, plus the police cruiser. He was hesitant to use the word "chase" when describing the incident.

"There was a brief pursuit, but it wasn't like a chase that went around numerous roads," he told Patch. "This stayed within a several-block radius."

Solano was handed numerous charges, including DUI, felony eluding, felony hit and run and assault on an officer, Sternbeck said. He was taken to Fairfax Hospital for minor scrapes.

The officer whose foot was run over was taken to Virginia Hospital Center for x-rays. He is expected to return to duty soon, Sternbeck said.
