Police: Woman Strangled, Held at Knifepoint by Live-in Boyfriend Near Shirlington

Police say an Arlington man strangled his girlfriend and held her at knifepoint on Halloween night.

A 29-year-old Arlington man was jailed Halloween night following an alleged domestic incident near Shirlington.

Police say that shortly before 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Cliudoi Olibio strangled and assaulted his girlfriend while she held their small child. The man and woman live together in an apartment in the 4400 block of South 31st Street.

The woman tried to leave, but Olibio attempted to hold her in the residence at knifepoint, according to police.

Olibio was arrested and charged with domestic assault and battery, strangulation and abduction. He was held without bond.

Arlington police Lt. Mike Watson said he wasn't sure if drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

Detectives did not indicate that the woman needed medical attention in their initial report, he said.

Police typically forward domestic violence reports to the Arlington County Department of Human Services, he said.
