Get Out: Patch's Pick-and-Choose Weekend Planner

Need ideas to get your weekend going? Look no further.

1. 

Where/When: Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 2nd St, South, Arlington, VA 22204. The fair runs Aug. 10 - Aug. 14, be sure to check the hours here, as they vary daily for inside and outside activities. 

Why Go: The Arlington County Fair is back for this weekend only, be sure to stop by and ride the rides, taste the food and see your Arlington neighbors.

Pricing: Admission to the fair is free, but tickets are required to ride the rides. Ride tickets may be purchased on the fair grounds at the following prices: single tickets for $1, 24 tickets for $20, and 48 tickets for $40. Details on the number of tickets required for each ride are posted at the ticket booth.

Where/When: , 1644 31st St NW, Washington, DC 20007. Saturday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m.. 

Why Go: Explore life in Civil War Washington through family stories or discover Civil War Georgetown on a unique walking expedition including the final resting places of Confederate spies, a Union hospital, military leaders' residences and a neighborhood home to enslaved and free African Americans.

Pricing: Free

 

3. Truckaroo

Where/When: Half and M Street, SE, across from the Navy Yard Metro Station. Friday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.. 

Why Go: Visit more than 20 food trucks and live music at Truckeroo, the monthly festival held June thru October at the corner of Half St. and M St., SE showcasing food trucks from the area.

4. "Wicked" at The Kennedy Center

Where/When: The Kennedy Center, 2700 F St., NW, Washington. Friday, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Patch editor Lauren Sausser and her husband went and said the show "was so much fun." She wrote  of it on Georgetown Patch. Be sure to make time to see it soon if you're planning to go - the show only runs through Aug. 21.

Pricing: Tickets range in price from $37 to $250.

 

5. 

Where/When: , 1911 Fort Myer Dr., Arlington. Friday 8 p.m.

Why Go: This week's movie is the fan favorite, "Mean Girls," rated PG-13. Make sure to pack chairs, popcorn and your sense of humor.
