Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Flash Flood Watch Issued

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

National Weather Service issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch and Flash Flood Watch until 9:00 PM for the Metropolitan Area (including District of Columbia).

The first watch was issued yesterday afternoon to prepare people for the possibility of a flash flood.

Thank you to commenter Ray Fridley for his comment about flood insurance on : "About the Arlington flash flood watch: If the flood comes, beware that normal property insurance excludes flood damages from rising creeks, rivers, etc. I'm retired from the insurance industry and I couldn't advise insureds enough about being not covered for flood. Policy for flood is available through the National Flood Insurance Program. But too many people that live in flood-prone areas still don't take out this protection. Let you and your readers be warned again!"
