The G-Team, the charitable section of Groupon, is featuring A-SPAN’s Make It A Home Fund as this week's deal.

The Make It A Home Fund is used to buy new beds for clients as A-SPAN helps to move them off the street and into their own places.

"We started it two years ago after hearing from several clients that the empty apartments were often too scary to live in until we were able to arrange furniture donations," said A-SPAN's director of development, Jan-Michael Sacharko, to Patch in an e-mail.

Due to health concerns and bed bugs, A-SPAN makes sure every client has a brand new bed the day they move out of homelessness. A local vendor offers the beds to A-SPAN at a great discount.

A-SPAN needed 50 total purchases of $10 to activate the deal. The $500 raised will allow A-SPAN to purchase a new queen-size mattress, box spring and frame for one person's new home. Sacharko said that new federal funding for the HomeBound2 program starts Oct. 1 and will be used to house at least three chronically homeless clients, stressing the timeliness of this deal to help our homeless neighbors.

Each additional $500 raised will be used to provide another client with a bed.
